During March Madness Mrs. Sarah Goering's class did a spin off of the March Madness bracket with book characters. The kids fill out their own bracket, and after that the class votes for their favorite characters through out the bracket until they have a winner! This year's bracket winners were Brennan Schrag in 1st place, Haley Stucky in 2nd place, and Ophelia Eggers in 2nd place. What a fun and creative project!!!!

Fifth and sixth graders recently learned how food made its way to school. But, not all the food for lunch comes on a big truck. Some of it has far less to travel because it comes from Pretty Prairie's School Farm!
Every day, FFA/Ag students come and get a bucket or two of scraps from the kitchen. The scraps are taken to the school farm and fed to the pigs to help offset the cost of feed. Sometimes we have lots of scraps from the kitchen, like when we serve cantaloupe. It takes 80 pounds of cantaloupe to feed this crew of hungry students PreK-12th grade. That's about 30 cantaloupe we (well, mostly Katie) peel, core, and cut up. Every bit of what most people would put in the trash or compost pile is sent to feed the pigs on the farm.
Once the pigs have reached the desired weight, they are sent to be processed. Foodservice purchases, at a lower cost, the ground pork for use in preparing meals. We prepare items such as Taco Meat and Chili with the ground pork, which is served at lunch.
There is just something satisfying about being able to serve a wholesome local product to the students. The same students that helped in raising the pigs that gave us that local food.

We will not have prelims, just finals. Finals will start @ 5:15. If we get postponed due to weather, the make-up date will be Friday, April 22.
